About Bush-Warbler

An Old World warbler, the Sri Lanka Bush Warbler (Elaphrornis palliseri), commonly known as the Ceylon bush warbler or Palliser’s warbler, breeds only in Sri Lanka, where it is the only bush warbler.

At 14 centimeters, this is a medium-sized warbler. They are brown with a large tail and short wings in the adult stage. The underparts are white. The throat is orange-tinged and has a faint supercilium. As with most warblers, the sexes are identical, but young birds do not have throat coloration.

Sri Lanka bush warblers can be difficult to spot since they blend into the background so well. Horton Plains National Park is an excellent choice. Like other warblers, this one flies low to the ground and eats insects.

Many men’s songs have an ear-piercing shriek that is the only way to tell them apart from females.

Identification

A small, unremarkable bird with an earthy-brown coloration and a graduated tail. Take special note of the rich, buffy neck, the small, faint grey eyebrow, and the light iris. On or near the ground, in damp vegetation, in the understory of wet forests in the hills and mountains of Sri Lanka, this species is very secretive, and it can be found alone or in pairs. This species is distinguished from all other small brown birds in its restricted habitat by its uniform appearance, which includes a buff throat and an inconspicuous gray eyebrow. The musical “chiwee-chiwee-chiwee” is a short song with a catchy melody. A quick, sharp “wit” note and a damp “chip” tone are among the calls
